Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, took second; Lando Norris was third for McLaren, 9.783 seconds back, with George Russell fourth for Mercedes and Max Verstappen fifth for Red Bull.
The result arrived in the middle of a genuinely stacked home weekend for British motorsport — Silverstone hosted F1 Academy, F2, and F3 alongside the main event, the only weekend all three support series race together in 2026, and the Grand Prix grid itself features five British drivers: Russell, Hamilton, defending Silverstone winner Lando Norris, Oliver Bearman, and rookie Arvid Lindblad, who arrived on a run of four straight point-scoring weekends.
Russell came into the weekend as the most recent Grand Prix winner and had gained 28 points on championship leader Antonelli over the two rounds prior, after Austria produced a top three separated by under two seconds. Red Bull, in its first season as its own power-unit manufacturer alongside Ford, showed a real step forward in that Austrian race — with Verstappen hunting down the lead — while Ferrari has been dealing with a power deficit that a fifth-place Austria finish for Hamilton only partially papered over.
