AWE Tuning Launches New Exhaust Suite for the BMW G42 M240i

AWE, the Horsham, Pennsylvania-based performance exhaust and intake manufacturer, announced on July 15 the release of a new exhaust suite for the BMW G42-generation M240i, the compact coupe built around BMW's turbocharged B58 inline-six. The company is pitching the system as a straight-through, full 3-inch design meant to unlock flow the factory setup leaves on the table, while giving owners a choice between a comfort-oriented "Touring Edition" and a louder "Track Edition."

"The B58 has always had more to give than the factory exhaust lets it show," said Josh Davis, AWE's creative director, in the company's announcement. "We built a full 3-inch straight-through system to get out of its way via 65% more flow, and proven power gains at the wheels on stock software. Touring Edition keeps it composed with 180 Technology so you're not fighting drone on the highway, and Track Edition strips that back for anyone who wants the M240i turned all the way up." AWE says the system delivers up to 10 horsepower and 17 lb-ft of torque at the wheels running the car's stock engine software, figures the company attributes to the reduced backpressure of the new piping and muffler design rather than any tune.

Construction follows the pattern AWE uses across its other exhaust lines: 3-inch, CNC mandrel-bent tubing rolled from U.S.-made .065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel, hand-assembled at the company's Pennsylvania facility. The Touring Edition uses AWE's patented 180 Technology, a drone-cancellation approach the company has applied to other platforms to keep cabin resonance down at steady highway rpm, while the Track Edition omits that tuning in favor of a rowdier, more resonant note for owners who spend more time on track than commuting.

Buyers can spec either edition with the car's factory-style tips or with AWE's own quad 4-inch double-walled, slash-cut tips, offered in chrome silver or diamond black finishes. AWE describes the install as a direct bolt-on requiring no cutting or modification to the factory hangers, and backs the system with what it calls a Perfect Fitment Guarantee, a "No CEL" guarantee against check-engine-light triggers, and a lifetime warranty — the same coverage terms the company applies to its other catback and axle-back product lines.

The M240i suite is the latest in a run of exhaust launches AWE has pushed out through the middle of 2026, following systems for the Cadillac Escalade in June and the Ford Ranger Raptor in early July, part of a broader expansion of the company's catalog beyond its longtime European-platform focus. AWE says the '22-and-newer G42 M240i system will be sold directly through its website and through its network of authorized dealers, with detailed pricing posted on the company's BMW-specific storefront, AWEBMW.com.

For M240i owners, the pitch is a familiar one in the aftermarket exhaust world — more flow, a two-tier sound personality, and a warranty structure aimed at buyers wary of check-engine codes or fitment headaches. Whether the claimed wheel-power gains hold up outside AWE's own testing will likely fall to independent dyno comparisons once the system reaches customers' driveways.
