Michelin Launches XHA3 Radial Tire for Loaders, Dump Trucks and Graders

Michelin has introduced the XHA3, a new radial tire built for loaders, articulated dump trucks and graders, the company announced in a press release dated July 7, 2026. The tire targets E3, L3 and G3 applications and is positioned as a replacement for the corresponding tire in Michelin's construction-equipment lineup, with the manufacturer citing improved durability and lower running costs as the primary selling points for fleet operators.

The headline feature is Michelin Visual Pressure Control, a patent-pending indicator built into the tire's sidewall that lets operators gauge inflation status by eye during routine walkarounds. Michelin says the system requires no electronic components, sensors or external monitoring hardware, distinguishing it from the tire-pressure-monitoring systems increasingly common on heavy equipment. For job sites where TPMS retrofits are costly or impractical, a passive visual check built into the rubber itself is a meaningfully different approach to catching under-inflation before it accelerates wear or causes a failure.

On performance, Michelin is claiming up to 20% greater wear life compared with the previous generation in the 29.5 R25 loader and 23.5 R25 grader/loader applications, along with up to 20% additional load capacity for grader and loader use in the 23.5 R25 size. The company also states that total cost of ownership comes in roughly 16% lower than its predecessor, a figure driven by the combination of extended tread life, added load capability and what Michelin describes as a high retreadability rate.

Construction underpinning those numbers includes a reinforced bead area engineered for high-torque machines, a four-block tread pattern, an optimized progressive shoulder radius intended to improve traction, and increased rubber volume in the tread itself. Michelin also points to gains in operator comfort and vibration reduction, and describes the tire as suited to mixed terrain spanning mud, asphalt and more aggressive job-site conditions.

The XHA3 is rolling out in three sizes on a staggered regional schedule. The 29.5 R25 size became available in the United States in June 2026, with Europe and Asia following in October and September 2026, respectively. The 23.5 R25 size arrives in the U.S. and Europe in October 2026 and in Asia in September 2026, while the largest size, 26.5 R25, is scheduled for a U.S. launch in January 2027 with no European or Asian date yet specified.

Off-the-road tires rarely draw the same attention as passenger or motorsport rubber, but they represent a significant cost center for construction and mining fleets, where tire wear, downtime and load capacity directly affect a machine's cost per hour of operation. A sensor-free pressure indicator and a double-digit reduction in total cost of ownership, if they hold up in the field, would matter more to a fleet manager's bottom line than most incremental changes to passenger tire compounds.
