
BYD's Denza Z Coupé Just Out-Powered Nearly Every Combustion Hypercar Alive

BYD's premium Denza brand revealed the production Z Coupé at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the headline number is hard to overstate: three electric motors combine for 1,582 hp and 915 lb-ft of torque, enough to hit 62 mph in a claimed 2.25 seconds and reach 186 mph flat out. It's built on a new development of Denza's e3 platform, and the brand isn't being subtle about who it's aiming at — press materials position the Z Coupé as a direct rival to the Porsche 911, a car with roughly a third of the power.
The Coupé is the entry point of a three-model spread. A Spider version matches the Coupé's 186 mph top speed with a slightly slower 2.3-second 0-62, while a track-focused Racing variant adds a large fixed rear wing and semi-slick tires, cutting the sprint to 1.96 seconds and pushing top speed to 217 mph. Denza has also confirmed a further 'Special Edition' is coming, claiming more than 1,973 hp and a sub-1.7-second 0-62 time. All versions run magnetorheological suspension — dampers filled with a fluid containing metal filaments that can change viscosity in milliseconds in response to road inputs. UK pricing starts at £142,900 for the Coupé (roughly $180,000), rising to £159,900 for the Spider and £172,900 for the Racing.
None of it is coming to American driveways any time soon. BYD and its Denza brand don't currently sell vehicles in the US, kept out by tariffs and the absence of federal homologation for the lineup — so for now, a Goodwood reveal is as close as most US enthusiasts will get to a car aimed squarely at unseating a Porsche icon. That doesn't make the number any less real: a Chinese automaker most American buyers still can't purchase from just put four-figure horsepower into a two-plus-two coupe body and priced it under $200,000, undercutting plenty of gas-powered rivals with a fraction of the output.
